Our aim is to increase awareness of issues of social or charitable concern and to raise funds for organisations outside the church.
In evening meetings we have covered many topics including Homelessness, the Elderly, Asylum Seekers, with talks by speakers from charities. In February each year we join forces with Churches Together in Boston Spa organising a Ceilidh which raises funds in aid of charity.
Every year in May we join with the Methodists in running Christian Aid Week which involves many members of our community in the church, village and schools raising money for people in need, of all faiths and none, all over the world.
On an on-going basis we collect donations for refugees, ranging from bikes, tents and sewing machines to clothing, shoes, underwear, dried foods and toiletries. This has been channelled through Yorkshire Aid, Leeds who organise transport to distribution points in Northern France and camps in Greece.
We also support Fairtrade by using their supplies in the church kitchen and holding a stall after the All-Age Service on the first Sunday of the month.
We would welcome anyone who would be interested in joining us – we live in a very privileged part of the world and the least we can do is share our resources, our time and our love with others.
