Baptisms

“Christ claims you for his own. Receive the sign of the cross” – words from the Baptism service

Baptism is a ‘sacrament’ (a holy ritual to symbolise grace) in a Christian tradition that we trace back to Jesus himself being baptised in the river Jordan. Baptism (also known as Christening) marks the start of the journey of faith. Through Baptism we become members of the worldwide Christian family of the Church.

In Baptism, we thank God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledge his love. In the Anglican Church it is common to baptise young children; this is sometimes also known as Christening. You can be baptised at any of our four churches and welcomed into God’s family, the Church.

Before the baptism, you will need to attend one of our Baptism Preparation sessions. These take place monthly on a Wednesday evening at St Mary’s Church, Boston Spa. Please submit an enquiry form or contact the Benefice Office for further details.
